Windows Defender change to Virus & Threat Protection

I tend to check Defender every now and then to see if it's showing an update is required. Today the screen looks different with a new box for Virus & Threat Protection, which says it needs to restart; I'm sure I've never seen this before.  I run Malwarebytes Premium 4.1.0 as I understood that this is a separate malware protection & therefore I need Defender as the anti-virus one.  BTW Defenders Device Performance & Health has a tick, so do I need to restart this Virus & Threat?  Thanks from a confused non-techie!

Restart the PC or just Defender?

The Windows Security settings screen hasn't changed that much over the years in Windows 10 and the Virus & Threat Protection box has been around for as long as I can remember. Just follow the instructions and restart.

BTW, if you're running MBAM premium in real-time mode then this has a habit of turning off Defender or rather Defender automatically switches off now if another AV program is running within the Security Centre. I tend to switch off the real time mode and let Defender do it's thing then run a periodic scan with MBAM. There is, however a setting to disable MBAM from the Windows Security Centre which will allow Defender to run alongside it.

Thanks for your reply; it now says "turn on Windows Defender Antivirus".   MBAM is running in real-time. There is an option to "always register MBAM in the Windows security centre", should I do that?  I cannot see any option to disable MBAM in the Windows Security Centre - all I have is "turn on Windows Defender Antivirus".  So do I presume Defender is a better antivirus than MBAM; I was hoping that being the Premium version it would be some good!

The option to turn on/of the setting to  "always register MBAM in the Windows security centre" is what I was referring to. If you switch this off then you can have Windows Defender running alongside, if that's what you want. Either way, you need to switch Windows Defender on.

MBAM is not an AV, it's anti malware program, a pretty good one at that, but it's not a replacement for proper anti-virus software so you need to enable Windows Defender.
