Do I have to try to reclaim from credit card before claiming from travel insurance?

I just wonder what the card company will have to say about sending me a letter to confirm that it’s nothing to do with them... if I’ll have to wait for them to investigate all the transactions & contact merchants, or if they will be happy to confirm that I can’t claim from them straight off? My flights happened and hotels open but FCO and USA restrictions means I could not go.
providers kindly offered goodwill credit , but that’s not the point, I won’t be able to arrange such a holiday again, Insurance declined...
