Money Moral Dilemma: Should I claim the self-employment grant even though I don't need it?
Comments
-
So, the grant is payable around mid August.
Your income has dropped directly because of covid between 14th July to the claim date. You make a claim.
You carry on working (and your income is still suffering) after the claim date, while 'thinking' about taking a course, as an option to educate yourself further.
You're offered a post graduate course late Sep. You decide to take it.
You are allowed to work so many hours outside of the full time course by the University, so you keep registered as a sole trader, so earning a taxable top up to your income.
Is that allowed under the rules?0 -

So, if the intention is not to continue trade in this tax year but become a student then any application would be fraudulent. If both are going to happen (student AND continuing to work) then its not an issue.
