Hello Guys,

Just wondering if any of you have had any dealings with AXA? I have been trying to contact our holiday provider since April to process a refund but haven't been receiving many responses so I lodged a claim with AXA to recover my holiday costs. I've received an email today from AXA stating:

Thank you for telling us about your cancellation claim, we are sorry to hear of the circumstances involved. Unfortunately, your claim has been declined; the reason for this is that the costs you are looking to claim for are recoverable from one of the following sources:

  • The providers of the accommodation, their booking agents, travel agent or compensation scheme.

  • The providers of the transportation, their booking agents, travel agent, compensation scheme or ATOL.

  • Your credit or debit card provider or PayPal.

The policy exclusion(s) we have applied to your claim is:

Any unused or additional costs incurred by you which are recoverable from:

  • The providers of the accommodation, their booking agents, travel agent or compensation scheme.

  • The providers of the transportation, their booking agents, travel agent, compensation scheme or ATOL.

  • Your credit or debit card provider or PayPal.

We realise that you may be disappointed with our response, however we trust our position has been fully explained to you. If we have failed to note additional information, which may affect the assessment of your claim, please send this to us for consideration.

I'm not sure how to proceed now or what they are getting at above, I would have thought my travel insurance would have been sufficient to cover me if my holiday provider wasn't being helpful.

Thanks

As above, insurers expect you to recover costs from whoever is legally liable to refund you, so won't act as a safety net just because the travel providers are difficult to get hold of.
