Hotel refund

In January while in Tenerife I booked a week for May 2020 in a hotel  there. I paid with my CC and the amount was taken in Sterling. 10 weeks ago the hotel offered me a another week at a later date, I refused this as it wasn't feasible and asked for a refund. The hotel replied and said this was possible, but would take around 6 weeks. I emailed them on the 1st July asking for the refund, and as yet I have had no response. Does anyone know my rights regarding this, am I by law entitled to a refund as I booked the hotel direct in Tenerife? Many thanks.

I had an email on the 2nd of July that the hotel was now open, it is a chain with hotels in various countries.

As the hotel have agreed to a refund, I don't see why they would change their minds (unless they have no funds).   Could be that being closed for so long they were unable to process refunds?.   I would send them another email asking what the hold up is and if you do not hear within 7- 10 days you will apply for a chargeback from the bank (on the basis the hotel was not open on your date of travel and have ignored correspondence).     Then provide all the correspondence you have.     (Some may say forget waiting any longer just apply for a chargeback now, however, this in itself could take a few months)
