DVLA - unable to contact

I have been trying to call 2 different numbers for the DVLA for the last 2 weeks to ask about a potential gap in tax on my Dad's car that he has given to us. One phone number is constantly engaged, the other one has a recorded message stating they are very busy and to check online (done that but no help) and then cuts you off. I even managed to get through using the online chat facility as I am a key worker but the adviser couldn't assist me. Has anyone got any other number that works for them? I have so far used 0300 790 6808 and 0300 790 6802. Thanks.

No idea, but maybe post the query on here and see if someone knows the answer?
Gap in tax is fine as long as you SORN the car and get it off the highway.0 -
Thanks - the car was on my Dad's drive and SORN, we then took ownership on the 13th June which was done online, got the logbook late June, didn't realise you could SORN it online so did it by post so was SORNd again from the 4th July so a couple of weeks with no SORN or tax. The car hasn't moved and is still on my Dad's drive. When I used the online chat facility they said that if we haven't received a penalty notice then we won't need to pay for the missing tax but couldn't confirm that 100% as could not see my details.

I don't think I'd worry as its sorted now. I think they are in chaos. no paperwork being sorted at all. On Facebook loads have sent in stuff months ago thats not being actioned - not much you can do if you cannot contact people.
Keep a note of any conversations of chat you have with them. I expect the police have more things to worry about and if you cannot contact them what can you do? How much would the missing tax be? Maybe send a cheque for it - that way you are covered anyway. But with the havoc of the virus lots of people will not have done everything by the book.0
