CSA payment taken from furlough wages

First post so please bear with me.
My partner returned to work in January after applying for many jobs and the due to the COVID situation was put on furlough in March. He is still on the 80% of his wages and as a commission based job his basic income is very low. This month the CSA have taken a massive chunk of his already small income as he had fallen into arrears whilst unemployed. He has spoken to the CSA who were totally in helpful and didn’t seem to mind he has been left with a wage of £500 for the month. I don’t understand how this is okay. Any advice would be welcome or any experience during this pandemic.

Thanks in advance

  • I don’t think there has been any announcements to say CSA payments were to stop.
  • If you have income you have to pay your obligations, simple enough.

If his commission was contractual, it should have featured in the calculation of what the company can claim for him under the CJRS, and therefore should (as a minimum) be paying him.

If his income has dropped he could apply for a reassessment.

Partners children didn't stop eating whilst there were arrears. Sorry to be blunt but that's how CSA will view it
