Bank not advising of my rights to contact Financial Ombudsman Service following making a complaint

You do not say what amounts you were transferring.
What you consider a large amount may not be a large amount to a bank. Their level for payment to be checked may be a lot higher than the payments you made.0 -
Breadcake - When it comes to what might've happened if they'd called me, we'll never know, as it never happened.
I can't imagine there's many people in this situation where the so-called friend then goes abroad. As one real friend said to me when he learned of this, "He really did a number on you"
Colsten - Why would you be annoyed if the bank was doing it to protect you and your funds?
Sheramber - We were supposedly starting a business. Transactions were between a few hundred and a few grand.

Plenty of sharks out in the real world. Most people get shafted at least once in their lifetimes. Often by people they trusted. You need to move on with your life. Rather than look for someone to blame.JohnSmith999 said:I can't imagine there's many people in this situation where the so-called friend then goes abroad. You haven’t mentioned how you made these payments, through online banking, in a branch or over the phone?0

these amounts may be below what the bank considers a large payment. I paid out £4000 by debit card recently and the bank did not ask for verification. I did think they might but no that was obviously not a high enough amount to be verified.

Looks like a " Sorry for not informing you of your options, here is £200 as an apology, now *** off" coming.

More like £20.3

I have to agree with Colsten, I regularly transfer 5-digit amounts without any input from my bank.colsten said:I regularly transfer low 5-digit amounts to other accounts, from various accounts. I would be more than mildly annoyed if the banks queried, or stopped, those payments. It‘s not the responsibility of the banks to determine what people do with their money.
In the past I have been Executor to 2 large estates. I did get a call from the bank about a £100k cheque to my Brother, but another for £200k+ sailed through.
It’s not the banks job to monitor payments that were willingly made by you.1 -
Thanks for those who've made constructive comments, unlike Colsten's last comment. No need to take the p.Time to go back to the bank unless anyone's got anything else to add?Mab3000 - Online banking was how the payments were made.0

I don't think colsten's last comment was 'taking the p' and simply reflects the view of most posters that you may extract a token payment from your bank if you're able to demonstrate that they didn't advise you of your rights to escalate to FOS. Maybe any such gesture will be closer to molerat's £200 than colsten's £20, but the key point is not to set your expectations that they'll be throwing significant amounts of money at you, as your only residual claim essentially relates to a technicality rather than anything substantive....JohnSmith999 said:Thanks for those who've made constructive comments, unlike Colsten's last comment.
