Return Requested .. daughter bought in error

I've just had a message from a buyer asking to return an item, with the excuse that her daughter bought it in error.
Ok, although I have stated no returns in my listing, I will accept it, but it seems a bit unfair if I have to pay for the return postage, let alone refund for the original postage which I obviously have already paid.
How should i respond .. what wording do i use

thanks

As this is a change of mind return the buyer pays. If you accept the return tell the buyer to send it back fully tracked and make sure they have your address.

If you are a private buyer you can refuse the return, however there is always the outside chance that they will then find something wrong with it and open an SNAD .

    Thank you for your answer.
Do I then refund the original purchase price only, or do I also include the £3 postage cost. ?
If I refund the delivery, I am being penalised for the buyers mistake .. seems unfair

On a change of mind return you refund the full original payment including postage. If you don’t then you wouldn’t get your FVFs back at all .

Sometimes I wish I could return my daughter, but apparently I have no rights in this regard.

You will also lose all the PayPal fees as they no longer refund any fees

If you are a private seller and the item is properly described then you don't have to accept the return.

Indeed but then you play roulette with a SNAD as per post 2

If the OP decides not to refund, would it be worth sending a message such as "is there anything wrong with it or is it just that it was ordered in error" and seeing what the reply is?

If the reply states that the item is fine just that it isn't needed, would this help in the event that a SNAD was opened?

As far as I know Paypal won't refund the fees for business accounts, for a private Paypal account they should refund the % and only keep the 30p.

Nope its for everyone, any paypal account now retains the full fee.

The private seller difference bit is possibly because there will be a difference once managed payments roll out as businesses are likely to be on managed payments where only the 30p is retained by Adyen, whereas private sellers will still be using paypal where the full fee amount is retained. It is one of the only advantages to a business being forced onto managed payments.
