Hotel with pool closed

Booked a hotel in Nice, France through Agoda in February. The hotel has a rooftop pool and bar and was the prime reason to stay. On arrival the pool is closed, not due to Covid but due to maintenance. This was not communicated to us before.
We paid nearly €600 for four nights and on arriving the same four nights cost €403, and that price included breakfast which ours didn’t.
What are our rights here, if any? It feels as though we have paid far over the odds and not received the services we’d paid for - if the pool was closed due to Covid I’d fully accept that but being closed due to ongoing maintenance with no communication on this feels wrong.

Is it possible it was closed just before you arrived ?0 -
It has been closed since spring but this wasn’t mentioned when booking (assume it was meant to be open early summer).0

Have you spoken to Agoda ?keving2020 said:It has been closed since spring but this wasn’t mentioned when booking (assume it was meant to be open early summer).
Other posters will be along with more advice.0 -
Lockdown is impacting everywhere. Imagine that pool maintenance services are in high demand in the South of France now that there lockdown has lifted. Then there's the availability of parts etc. The world isn't going to restart at a flick of a switch any time soon.keving2020 said:It has been closed since spring but this wasn’t mentioned when booking (assume it was meant to be open early summer).0 -
Have a check on your terms of booking. Most hotels will hold the right to amend/curtail certain amenities, even at the best of times. If they don't and the pool was the main part of the reason for booking you may have a justified complaint. But a complaint is just about as far as you will get. Did you say you are there now? Have you lodged a complaint? Sometimes, you may be offered a free meal or two? You won't be able to claim any money back from your insurance or on a card. Hotel open; you are there.
As for the price you paid? You paid what you felt was reasonable at the time and just because the price has been reduced now doesn't mean you are entitled to a rebate. This is what happens all the time with hotels. You are not forced to book, you can hold booking to see if prices come down but they can just as easily go up. People book feeling happy they have got a good deal (otherwise they wouldn't book) All about supply and demand. Rule number 1, once you book a holiday never look to see what the prices are afterwards!

Express your feelings to the management in person. Something similar has happened to us and we were offered the ability to use facilities at a neighbouring hotel. Alternatively, as mentioned in another post, they may give you a complimentary meal or send a nice bottle and fruit to your room. As regards the price paid, nothing to be done there.0
