Student son buying car, what details to put for insurance quote?

Son is buying his first car,  getting insurance quotes.  At the moment he is living at home,  and the car will be parked on the road outside our house.  His dad will also have the opportunity to drive it now and then,  so son was planning to name him on the insurance.
Obviously he will be going back to uni when it re-opens (hopefully September).  then the car will be parked in a car park  (hall of residence).  Dad would still be named as we assume lad will come home for weekends now and then.
So,  getting his insurance quote -  currently living at home with parents,  occupation part-time supermarket worker, car parked outside home,  but every aspect will change come Sept.  Should he get quote for those conditions too?  Is it likely that the best quote for now would be over-expensive for when he's back in Coventry?
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

He needs to put down where the car will spend the majority of its time, which in a normal year will be Uni.  I think you need to find a couple of competitive quotes and then talk to the insurers, after that you will then have a better idea of how to proceed.

Of course the big question is will the universities be going back in September?  Probably but you never know.

You provide details which are correct as of today,  when circumstances change you update the information.

For this reason find a company which don't charge for making changes to policies.

But they will make a charge if the risk increases.

That is incorrect, doing it this way would require 3/4 changes in a year.   Much easier to insure it as a University student, this is will be easy enough to sort out with the right insurer.
