Refund stopped my DD

I ordered a TV during the month but cancelled the transaction, I used my Barclay card. The cancellation was more than the outstanding balance from the previous month and resulted in no DD being requested by Barclaycard. Are there any implications from this, e.g. will I be charged interest next month or will BC just take the balance as it is now and carry on as normal. The refund does not show as a payment on my statement, but no interest charges have been applied. Thanks for any help.

  • Was your statement cleared in full last month?
If your statement balance was in credit - no payment is required and if you clear this month in full no interest should be charged.

Yes it is always cleared. My statement balance was never in credit. The refund was applied the next day to the original charge, it is not over different periods. It has applied the refund £1200 against the previous month outstanding balance £600.  I wasn't sure whether to make a payment now or just see what happens.

Should be fine. I have a Barclaycard, and I have noticed that refunds are treated as payments towards the statemented balance, and reduce the DD amount accordingly. Most cards in my experience don't treat refunds as payments, so Barclaycard is a bit unusual in this respect.
  • My holiday refund to my Barclaycard was not treated as a payment. DD taken as normal regardless.

It might have been, that your refund arrived too close to payment date for the DD to be amended/cancelled.

All credit card companies take your DD if there is an outstanding balance. No credit card companies treat refunds as payments.

Incorrect. Barclaycard does. See my earlier post.

My DD wasn't taken by Nationwide the month I got my cruise refund, and the next month I never got any cashback on my spending as they clawed the cashback back on my cruise payment :( .

But presumably you were awarded cashback when you originally paid for the cruise, so you're no worse off than you would be if you'd just never booked it.
