How long before chargeback or section 75

I was just wondering how long are people leaving it before they attempt a chargeback or section 75 for a future booking which has been cancelled, after requesting a refund if the provider doesn't give you a timescale for processing the refunds?

Well, chargeback has a time limit for claiming.

Which I understand applies from the date of purchase or the date the cancelled service would have taken place if it's a ticket you purchased. I was really questioning about cancellations where the date on the cancelled ticket had not yet been reached. Obviously refunds are supposed to be within 7 days but it's not realistic to expect that, if the provider says refunds will take x days to process then I presume you'd give them that first but what if they don't give any indication for timescales, other than they've got a lot to get through?Pollycat said:Well, chargeback has a time limit for claiming.0 -
Perhaps tell us which company it is.0

Still waiting for Lufthansa, into month 4. That wouldn’t be acceptable for a lot of people and they’d have initiated a chargeback.0

The one I'm affected by is Brussels Airlines for a flight in October. I'm thinking of giving them 28 days before initiating a chargeback (unless they come back sooner and either tell me it will be processed by a certain date or refuse to issue a refund.) As Brussels Airlines sent around a large number of emails to customers who were booked on flights which they've cancelled at the end of June I don't think anyone will be in the position to tell me exactly what will work best in my circumstances, so I was more asking a generic question of how long people have been waiting so that I can use that information in making my own decision.bradders1983 said:Perhaps tell us which company it is.
So what @bagand96 said about Lufthansa is useful, as they own Brussels Airlines.0 -
Lufthansa told me on the phone in March there would be a big delay and it would be up to 12 weeks. Then last week I had an email from them reminding me I could take a voucher or free rebooking. But if I wanted a cash refund that was fine and it was in progress and I had to do nothing more, but it could take 6-8 weeks. So the goalposts have moved.epm-84 said:

So what @bagand96 said about Lufthansa is useful, as they own Brussels Airlines.Like I said, many people wouldn’t be prepared to wait that long and it’s down to personal views and circumstances. In my mind the money was spent when I booked, and I know I will get it back, and I know it’s a mammoth task for the airlines playing catch up.It seems the longer this has gone on, banks are starting to stall people when they request a chargeback or Section 75. It’s an interesting situation, because most airlines are not refusing a refund, they just aren’t giving them in a timely manner, or are unable to give a timescale. There will also be a mess where people claimed and receive chargebacks, and then the refund comes through at some point in the future.0 -
Virgin refunds are somewhere between 100 and 120 days behind, if that helps

We're still waiting for a refund from Air France. The flight was meant to be 25th May but was cancelled in April. We filled in the form then asking for a refund but haven't heard anything from them at all. Some Eazyjet flights from travel around the same time have been refunded at the start of July so I'm getting a bit impatient with AF. Will probably give it until August and then ask AMEX for the chargeback since 12 weeks seems reasonable.0

Hi, a friend and myself were supposed to be going to Italy last March for the Six Nations rugby in Rome. the match has been 'postponed'. I purchased tickets through the Italian version of Ticketmaster (www.ticketone.it) and have tried numerous times to get a refund but they are saying the match might still be played but are only offering vouchers and only for a 'similar' event. This would be March 2022 but a vioucher would only be valid for a year.

Start a charge back via your credit card. It can take some time to process, I was told 6-8 weeks by NW :-( The sooner you start that process the better.
