This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning lovelies
Had a fairly screen free weekend which was nice ....so much extra time when I take out the incessant scrolling. Just caught up on the news
Gers great news that you can see your mum. Hope she's recovering well
nanny Oh dear don't know what happened but it must have been bad you have the patience of a saint. I'll just check the battery on the charabanc then we can ship any wayward parents into blissful isolation
NRA so sorry to read about your sister
TA Hugs for you
Nothing momentous to report here. Excitement yesterday was switching it up a bit and having a Sainsburys delivery. All present and correct which seems to be the norm now. I did get a brisket joint which was significantly bigger than I anticipated so that will do for the weekend and probably 20 weekends after too
Today is the usual cleaning day for me mixed in with some necessary admin. Weather a bit disappointing after a lovely weekend hope it improves soon then the spa can open.
Food today will be an orzo risotto courtesy of Nigella. To be honest I'd never heard of or eaten orzo before but thanks to her daily pop up recipe on FB it gave me something new to try
Have a good day all

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Nelski.
Newroadahead, I'm sorry to read of your sister's death, and TA sad to hear that your brother is ill.
Gers, that is good news about your mum and you will be relieved to be able to see her.
We have had a sunny weekend and I've spent a lot of it pottering in the garden. I still have the massive anthills of doom to attack, well two of the three to do, I did flatten one.
I am hoping that using ant killer powder will deal with some of them at least. It was flying ant day here yesterday so I might leave that job to midweek as they tend to fly for a few days.
Other than that, the ironing and some online learning, I have little planned.
Hope everyone has a decent day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning Everyone,
Managed to get a few jobs done over the weekend. Played with my new floor steamer, it is fantastic and so much better than a mop and bucket. Can be hand held too, so I can clean the kitchen worktops.
Washing machine needs repairing the grey plastic part has come off from the inside of the drum - part ordered and engineer booked for later in the week.
Did a bit of gardening and sat in garden yesterday.
Today is SC day chicken casserole. Not in work unless called in. I will go and do my voluntary work later on packing food parcels .
Booked to see my mom in the Nursing Home on Saturday - first time since March.
Have a good day everyone

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off Nelski, I'm looking forward to hearing how your risotto turns out.I slept so much better last night though woke up even earlier, think it's the rising excitement about hospital visiting. 😀
Wearing a face covering is proving to be a little more difficult than I anticipated, probably an after effect of the collapsed lung, so I've ordered a couple of visors to use instead. I'll probably feel faintly ridiculous in it but that doesn't matter in the least. We had 18 new reported cases in Scotland along with no deaths yesterday, need to keep that going.Yesterday I did some more weed pulling and sprayed the ones which are harder to pull. I've always fought a war against brambles so all the new ones got zapped. Now got huge midge bites on my legs and two on my left hip. They're like mini mountains! 🤣
This evening I'm seeing my hip surgeon, there's something not quite right with it, or perhaps it's normal and I'm being too impatient, I'll find out which later.Virtual hugs to the sad and poorly amongst us. NRA, just sad news about your DSis. It's good to hear that she fulfilled some of her bucket list. TA. - just a hug for you. 🤗
Right, must get myself all shiny band bright for hospital visiting. Only five hours to go. 🤣
Happy Monday to all.14 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting Nelski. It's grey and mild here, it might brighten a bit.Bella, I'm sorry about your Mum's diagnosis, also NRA, condolences on the loss of your Dsis.I know you've had bad news as well TA, also thinking of you.Gers, it's good that you've enjoyed some time at home, and that your Mum seems to be doing a little bit better. Not a lot happening here, went to Aldi yesterday, and thats about it!I phoned a couple of friends who live alone, and was on the phone ages to one of them, we had a lovely chat. The other friend can be a bit spiky at times, unfortunately it's too easy to annoy/offend her so I keep the conversation general, there's not always a lot to say, as she can't go out at the moment. She's fallen out with her family so that avenue of conversation is closed, and in consequence I don't like to mention my family. I said that we were going away in the caravan next week and this just brought forth a comment of Huh, all right for some, and she's not joking. As I say it can be difficult at times. I do feel sorry for her, she has bad health, but I must admit I ring her out of a feeling of duty. Still, that's the way it is and I can't change it.We are looking after the grandchildren today while Dd has her hair done, first time for months (both for her hair, and us looking after the dgc's) I hope it stays fine.Hope everyone has a good day anyway, take care folks15

Morning all
Dolly will be walked in a bit but i like to wait for DS to be home as he is on a motorbike i just like to be sure he is safe . Big tidy up as DD2 and her fiancee and dog arrive today before they fly to Turkey for 10 days and we finally finished decorating the dinning room so there was dust everywhere.
Mean Marie Sorry I missed your Ruby Anniversary Congratulations to you both
Gers I am so pleased your mum is doing better and i am glad you had a nice few days at home with company
TA I am thinking of you and your brother

Morning folks and thanks NELS for starting us off. I had orzo the last time I ate out - on my birthday before lockdown. I can taste it now it was absolutely delicious. You must tell us how the recipe goes, it sounds yummy.
A damp start for us with drizzle forecast on and off most of the day. What's happened to the nice weather they said was coming back. DS called yesterday and we sat in the garden. It was nice whilst the sun was out but felt a bit chilly when it went behind the numerous clouds.
As usual it will be a day of the same old same old. Bit of pottering and bits of slothfulness. Momentous decision, as I finished yet another book yesterday, is choosing which book to start on next.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, poorly mums, sad, worried or lonely. NAN I hope you have calmed down now and dad is full of remorse. GERS happy hospital visiting. Take care all and stay safe. x

Morning All
The sun has left here for a while and the rain is busy watering the gardens, just hope it remembers to stop!
Happy Anniversary Marie, hope you enjoyed your celebration even if it wasn't the one planned.
Condolences to you NRA.
Happy visiting Gers.
Sometimes losing your temper is the only way to go Nanny, hope your Dad is full of remorse.
The garden was tidied yesterday, potted up some new strawberry plants from the runners and tied up the sweet peas, they have been quite poor this year, I usually have hundreds of flowers climbing up the fence but just a few have grown. I had a lovely visit from Gers yesterday afternoon sporting newly cut hair, I'm so jealous as I have to wait until Saturday for mine to be done.
Nothing much planned for today, may make some more face masks so I can keep some in every pocket, bag and the car. I turned up some curtains for DS1 yesterday, just hope they are the right length now!
Happy Monday, take care. XX12 -
Morning everyone
Nelski - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light cloud but quite bright start to the day.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 gone to work and DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, HG green beans, swede, peas, stuffing, yorkshires and gravy - chicken had excellent flavour. Some LO's which we'll be using up today and tomorrow.
We had quite a chilled day yesterday. Today we've a couple of jobs at home we want to get done, so will get those done.
Keep safe and well x

Gers, enjoy your visit, Scotland has done really well with the virus.
We're waiting for the plumber to come, not that there is anything for him to do because Steve has fixed the problem but we want him to see the damage. I'm wilting because Steve put the heating on constantly to try to dry the room and although the thermostats are down on most of the radiators the towel radiators are still on and the boiler is firing so it's making the house really warm.
I also need to ring to see if I can sort a script for the emergency meds I got, getting through to the surgery is an art in itself. Apart from that I shall be embroidering the address on all the mattress protectors and pillow protectors so that the cleaners can identify them - they have to be changed after every booking now.

Morning all
Bright and sunny here and set in for a lovely day I think, we did the lawns yesterday, Marie it is a self propelling mower so no effort at all, although OH ended up both mowing and cutting the hedge and I did some dead heading and cutting back and watering, we also put some stuff on the bare patches on the lawn and hope it works, I must go and water in in a while, I think its where the dogs wee !
Im going to do a curry for dinner I dont like it too much in hot weather but OH and DD do so I will bike the bullet and make one, Im sure I will like it although it seems a bit daft in this heat.
Wash on the go and the dw needs putting on, I will have a sweep through and a quick tidy. Dogs will be taken out later probably to the woods where its a bit cooler.
Nels I had orzo once before I think it was a lemon and asparagus recipe from memory, any way it was delish so enjoy xx
NRA I am thinking of you xx
Bella much love to you all x
Marie Happy Belated anniversary x
Nan you go girl !!
Have good days all xx12
