Nova insurance claim denied

I'm after some advice as to where I stand as my claim with nova insurance was denied for my cracked pixel 2 xl on the basis that I hadn't provided photos and imei when the device was new/ working order.
This must have slipped past me as I did just check back and there was that in an email from ages ago, however they have since made no attempt to contact in the time in between or even tell me that my policy is no longer valid.
Has anyone else dealt with them or simular company and got any ideas of ways of getting any leniency on this?

If the requirement of insurance is that you register the new device, and you didn't do that, you will not be able to claim at a later date.  I'm afraid it really is that simple.
