  • I would love to do that.  The thing is they send me a letter In the post every time I make an overpayment so I'm a bit loathe to send it in dribs and drabs in case they get shirty. 😂.
  • Hi everyone......

I have had a very spendy month, tv licence renewal, house insurance and my fridge freezer died.  So today I'm just going to overpay the usual £200 and then see if I can rustle up enough for an additional overpayment mid month.
  • Managed to get down to mini goal of sub £41k by October. Wahoo.

Next milestone is sub £40 forJanuary.

Alas, no further overpayments for October.  Just going to make my usual £200 for November and then see how I go.

Checked my EDF account and I am well in credit so hopefully I have enough in reserve to meet my winter fuel bills and can increase my mortgage overpayments. Also in the process of switching broadband and mobile suppliers. Once it's all gone through I will throw any extra savings at the mortgage.  I have also made a real effort to make sure I use cash back sites this month, so there should be a bit more building up I can also add to the overpayments.

I've worked out that if I want to reach my 5 year target I need to overpay by £350 a month. Currently managing £200 with relative ease so just need to push a bit harder.  Hopefully start some sort of sideline business in the New Year.

No idea what though.  Need inspiration.   I think I'll make a start by having a good declutter and selling as much as I can.

Just coming in to cheer you on. 😊 Just started my own diary in anticipation of the house we're buying and seeing your progress is helping to motivate me! Paying double your regular payment is impressive, let alone going for extra. 😊

  • Thanks Ami.  Paying double sounds a lot but I only have a small mortgage so not as impressive as it sounds.  😂.  Still the sooner I can shift it the better.  Just need to try and find a way of earning some extra......

Going  to pop over to your thread, noticed it earlier.  Thanks again for your support.
  • Wahoo.  Got my statement this Morning.  Down to £40,611-46.   Next goal is starting the New Year at sub £40k. So will need to make an extra overpayment to achieve this.

Broadband and mobile switches going through smoothly so should save in the region of £39 a month.   Not enough to take me to my goal of increasing overpayments to £350 but it's a start.  Currently managing £200 so need to try and find a way of  saving/earning that extra £150.

I have decided I am going to have a use up month to reduce the housekeeping budget for November,  I have loads of food, toiletries and cleaning materials so should be easy enough.  Then, in future, see if I can squeeze another £50 a month from the grocery bill to add to the overpayments.

    I think I'm getting addicted!!!  😂

Ooh, a use up month is a really good idea. Might have to pinch that one! It would save money and be less to pack, haha Think it might be time to do a cupboard audit...

On the same theme - we use a particular brand of toothpaste that is ~£4 usually, but is half price now and then so I stock up. Recently looked at my stash and had about 6 tubes in there! 😂 Now on a toothpaste ban until we get through some of it!
