    totally believable 3 students have had a jolly on the free bills - heating on all day, phones on charge etc. Not saying you did that, but it will be up to the landlord to PROVE how much you have used in excess.  In addition why were the high bills raised during the year?
    An answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......

    How much deposit did you pay ?
    Has the Landlord made any deductions for anything else.
    So the LL is claiming the 3 student tenants have used over £2600 of energy  during the 10 months you lived in the property.
    Dispute the whole deposit with the DPS people
