Can I start work now before claiming the second grant.

Yes. That is allowed.1

Self employed have been allowed, indeed encouraged, to work throughout. The has no impact on eligibility for the grant. Eligibility for the grant is based on the trade/business being adversely impacted.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1

Second grant requires the business to have been adversely affected after 14th July, so can not be assessed yet.0
