Our consumption (2 'senior citizens' in a 4 bed house) over the past 3 months has been 1275 KWh - something less than £12 per month. Spending less than £7 over 3 months on heating water really doesn't seem possible.

That will depend on how the house is set up.
We also use very little gas during the summer as the combi boiler is only heating water to wash the pots. Our shower is electric. Some days if we use the dishwasher instead the combi might not fire up at all.
