Notice period while remaining on furlough, advice needed

Hi all, i've just been given 12 weeks notice, and my termination date being 2nd october. Ive been told i will remain on furlough (100% of wages). My questions are
Can i find other employment while on notice?
Am i still classed as employed?
Do i have to wait till 2nd october to claim benefits?
can i claim JSA while being on UC?
The reason why im on UC is because my partner has been out of work since april ( his a S/E electrician) and i was furloughed.
To be honest we have only received 1 U/C payment in 3 month because of my earnings and partner receiving the seiss grant and also a tax rebate.
Thanks

you are still employed & any benefits you claim will still be reduced to take account that you still have 100% of your salary coming in.

does your contract or your furlough agreement letter forbid you from finding other employment?

    It depends on your contract.
    Yes, you are still employed.
You won't be able to claim for New style JSA until October once you've received your final wage. If you do claim it in October then it will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement. It's paid for 26 weeks @ £74.35 per week (over 25's)

You should ask your current employer (you are classed as employed until 2 October) whether you can take another job. There is nothing to stop you looking for one. Whether or not you can claim universal credit will depend on your savings and your income in each assessment period.

Eligibility for new style JSA is explained here:

I don't think you will qualify while on notice, but others more knowledgable about JSA may know better.

Your notice period is a long one, which may indicate long service. Are you entitled to any redundancy pay?

Yes i will be getting redundancy. I'm currently getting UC because i live with my partner (and 1 child)  who has also been out of work since april. His a CIS electrician and because he received the seiss grant and also a tax rebate and taking into account my salary on furlough, so far we have only received 1 payment in 3 assesment. Can you receive JSA and UC together? Or does it have to be one or the other?  I was considering claiming JSA in october if i wasnt working

You can claim both, but that doesn't necessarily help:

New Style JSA and New Style ESA

If you have worked as an employee and paid enough National Insurance contributions you may also be able to get either New Style Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or New Style Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

You will apply for New Style JSA or New Style ESA separately to Universal Credit. You can apply for them and Universal Credit at the same time. If you get these benefits at the same time as you get Universal Credit, your Universal Credit payments will be reduced. For every £1 you receive from them, your Universal Credit payment will be reduced by £1.

Thank you. I completely understand why claiming both UC and JSA isnt helpfull, if by claiming JSA reduces UC by £1 for every £1 you receive  then there would be no point.

New style JSA is helpful where you don't get UC because of means testing, for example.

You don't need their permission to take on other work, but you must be available to return from furlough if requested.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

You are still subject to the contract of employment, which is likely to have conditions. Best to ask.
