Irish Ferries & cancelled accommodation query

We had planned to holiday in Southern Ireland on the 8th - 15th August 2020, there are 2 adults and our 5 kids due to travel. Our accommodation cancelled in March in early lock down, so we have no were to stay, due to the number in the party its has to find accommodaion at an affordable price. The ferry hasn't cancelled but as we have no where to stay we are not looking to go away. They say we can have a credit note to travel next year, but out two older children will be 16 and we see they wont want to travel. Can anyone offer some advise on how we can get a refund from Irish Ferries. We have travel insurance with our Nationwide Bank Account. We have not yet tried them as they say they will only look after things 28 days before travel but do say if you have been offered a voucher then insurance wont cover, but as travel was for a holiday of which part has now canclled we wondered if this would change things. Thank you in advance

Hi Emma, When you say a part of the holiday has now been cancelled do you mean you booked it all as a package? If so, who with? You may be able to claim a refund from them if that is the case. Although you say the accommodation was cancelled really early on so sounds unlikely an agent was involved. Therefore, If not, then sorry but I think the credit note from the Ferry Company is quite generous and is about as good an offer as you will get if the ferry you are booked on is running. I doubt very much your insurance would entertain you choosing to cancel unless it specifically gives you this option (Unlikely).
Of course, you could choose to go? Am sure you could find accommodation to suit.2 -
The accommodation was booked with Air Bnb, this was cancelled and the deposit refunded very early on. As you can tell, it wasn't a package. Air Bnb and Irish Ferries.
Finding accommodation for a family of 7 with children from 15 to 3 is a challenge at times. Plus with things how they are it prob wouldn't be the holiday experience we initally booked.
Plus my husband works as a role that is a key worker (manager for an organisation that house people with LD to live in the community) and has been working all through lockdown, I'm not sure if he would be allowed to have 10 days from work.
Thank you for your reply

With no US visitors this summer. Expect that there'll be plenty of accomodation available if you look hard enough. Given most of the time you'll be outdoors. You'll have a great time over there.0

If your ferry fare was non-refundable or flexible then they have no obligation to refund you I’m afraid.0
