How Long Will It Remain On My Record?

Good morning everyone,
Years and years ago I had a Vodafone contract, I came out of this early and, as far as I was aware, paid up the remaining months. At the end of 2018 my husband and I tried to get a mortgage but we were told that my credit score was too low. It turned out that Vodafone hadn't taken my money! After a lot of phoning back and forth we found out that Vodafone had sent my 'debt' on to a debt collection agency, said collection agency had never contacted me about this and they didn't even have my details on record, Vodafone had to dig through their records to find it and then resend it to the collection agency! So somehow, even though, really, nobody knew I existed this had been on my file for about 6 years impacting my credit rating. I will put my hands up and admit that I didn't check my rating, I had no need to, I had a mortgage at the time, I have a bank account and a decent credit card so felt no need to. Anyway, I got it paid up, all £100 of the debt that had reduced my credit rating and got my mortgage in the end. But here I am 18 months later and still unable to get a loan due to a lowish rating. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how long this will remain on my rating as I'm not really sure what it is classed as?!
Thank you and apologies for the long post!

It'll remain on your files for t years from closure or default, whichever is earlier.
Your score and rating isn't seen or used by lenders. So while that may stay permanently low, lenders will view you more positively now the negative data is resolved and getting older.1 -
6 years from default or after you made the payment / account closed.
Have a look on all of your credit files to see what it's classed as eg default or several years of no payment.
Ignore the score and rating as it isn't seen or used by any financial institution, it's the credit history they see.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
Thank you for your comments. I thought it would be 6 years but wasn't sure.1

If there was an error, I would be going back to Vodafone to correct your files.
