Traditionally it's a spade under one edge to lever it up and break any adheasion. You need a stout one or a cheap one you don't mind possibily destroying.
I bought a crowbar for about £7 which worked for me as the spade was too cumbersome and heavy for a small person. The slabs were 65cm square but it will work on bigger. Just ease with tool from 2 or 3 sides.
I found lots by searching lifting paving slabs uk - and if you want to add MSExpert there are quite a lot here.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

  • Ok, thanks. This has been a real and worsening problem for me since they were laid by people who, I hadn't realised at the time, were the local branch of Cowboys 'r' Us...

I have found a Mattock is the most useful tool to have around a garden for all sorts of jobs.
grubbing out, leveling ground, lifting slabs etc.
The wide head reduces the risk of them cracking(does need a slightly wider joint than a spade edge.
if you don't need a full size one tool station do a smaller one.

They come with a cutter or a pick for the secondary

That would be brilliant for all sorts of jobs I need to do Getmore!
Nothing to do with paveing either. And a small one I could handle where I didn't know they existed. The big ones being a non starter.
    Thanks for the posting.

  • I recently re-did my patio and used a 5:1 mix of sharp sand and cement.
