Help - insurance doubled

Hi - I found insurance on confused.com I highlighted a claim in 2017 that was my fault and gave the date the insurance company had given me along with the amount and have bee using this detail for 3 years.
I got a quote for 420 which I paid, today the insurance company wrote to me to state they are cancelling my insurance. After calling them they thought that I had had two accidents because the search threw up a different date (by three months than I’d been previously given and used). They agree it’s only one accident because they cannot find the other claim but have put the insurance up by £480. They said this is not a competitive quote so they will look for another quote tomorrow but I will have to pay £40 to change or if the quote is too much it will be cancelled and I have to pay £90 and insure elsewhere. The amount for the accident is the same. I wanted to check the claim myself but it takes a month for a query!!!!!!!
Has this ever happened to anyone else before? The thing I am most worried about is that I may have to state on any new insurance quotes that I have been denied insurance which I assume will put my premium through the roof. I’m really upset I absolutely acted in good faith and acknowledged the claim and don’t understand how an insurance company could have given me the wrong info or why this hasn’t been picked up in the last 3 years. I haven’t omitted the claim but seems inadvertently put the wrong date. The insurance company are calling me tomorrow- any advice given will be really appreciated as I’m incredibly stressed. Thank you

your worry at present is not the price of insurance but if the cancelled insurance has been recorded officially.
tell them to send you a letter saying the cancellation does not need to be declared in the future as there was no fraud intent from your end.
