Section 88

Hi there, I really need some guidance.
I have been waiting for my new license from the DVLA for over 3 months now.
I was disqualified for 6 months until April 7th for totting up of points.
Can I drive under the section 88 rule? The booklet implies I can but I'm not getting a yes or no from the DVLA.
I'm looking for reassurance that if I was to get stopped or if I was to have a bump I would be covered for insurance & I would not be breaking the law.
I have no new medical issues since my disqualification.
I am a key worker and need to drive
Any guidance would be fantastic
Regards Liam
