Check if employer had claimed furlough payments.

Is there any way to check if my employer has been claiming furlough payments on my behalf?
I reckon they been telling lies and not giving me the full story and I was want to know if it’s possible for me to check if they has been claiming. I would ask them but they would just say no and deny it.

Thanks

You can check you personal tax account for what they reported to HMRC that they paid to you.
I don't think you can check directly whether the company claimed furlough payments.  Like any other income the company receives, it is not of direct relevance to the employees as it does not impact what the employee should receive.

What is your position and concern about this?

No unfortunately at the moment you can’t check. You can look at your tax account and see what they have claimed to have paid you but that’s about it. HRMC even told me yesterday non payments were an employer dispute to which I said well no not really as thats government money that hasn’t been paid to me but submitted as paid on your own records. The advisor wasn’t even aware of the report fraud option!

I disagree that it’s not of direct relevance though as could only be claimed using employees personal details and was supposed to be passed to them.

I’m hoping at some point in the future with so many claiming fraud the information will become available eventually.

It would soon become very apparent if an employer was claiming furlough for an employee and not passing it onto that employee.

If the employer was not passing it onto the employee, there would be no future PAYE returns for that employee, which would soon alert HMRC that the payments were not passed to that employee.

If an employer fraudulently made PAYE returns for an employee whilst not actually paying that employee, in an attempt to deceive HMRC, the employee would soon spot that either via their online tax account, or at the latest, when they were issued with their P60.

They “shut down“ the company and started a new one but had transferred us to the new pay roll in time to receive furlough. A quick check on company’s house shows updates to the directors last month, so they haven’t shut the company down. I checkEd my personal tax at the beginning of lock down and the last time they paid tax for me was in January. As I was only new to the company in December, when I questioned about pay slips they said they kept them for us. Any other time they would have got away with it but it’s backfired due to the pandemic. Basically don’t think there is much I can do as haven’t paid tax since January or been on a payroll so I was basically “unemployed” without actually knowing it .

If they were making a claim under the CJRS in respect of your wages, those wages would have to go through payroll, and would appear in your personal tax account. They could put payments through payroll and not give you the wage, which seems to be happening quite a bit. The transfer from one company to another ought to be irrelevant, as under TUPE obligations transfer to the new company, and employment for CJRS purposes is also continuous, so if you were on the old company payroll in January, you should have been eligible to be furloughed.

Yes we got paid up until March, same wages as usual from the same bank account. Wasn’t till I was off due to lockdown all this started coming out as I was able to investigate more. Will need to speak to them. The thing that worries me is if I say to hmrc or anything then il end up having to pay tax back
