Could it be something as simple as they only want you to have one current account, and so automatically declined the second?
For instance, is it possible that only one Select account per customer is allowed and as the OP already has a Select account the second application was declined?

Santander just got back to me on this - they had the wrong house number on the application (not sure if it was their mistake or mine). Nothing to do with my credit rating/info from Experian etc!
