So, the first thing you do on the day you move in is contact those suppliers and ask to move to their cheapest tariff that doesn't attract any exit fees; and of course supply the current readings. Do that even if you will be switching away because you would otherwise default to their most expensive tariff.

Then, make sure that your final bills from the current suppliers only include your usage. You might get bills addressed to 'the occupier' or previous tenants names to cover the period before you move in: don't pay them.

Make sure you set up a direct debit to the new suppliers and take (and give them) monthly readings. Take a photo of the meters so you have a record in case there is ever any dispute.

Good news that it (presumably) has GCH ! You could guesstimate 12,000kWh for gas and 2,900kWh for electricity, maybe a bit more if it's a big old property and you're at home all day, a bit less if it's a new well insulated flat and you're both at work.

We moved from a Housing Association Landlord bungalow, to a private landlord apartment in a gated block, near the end of March. Yes, just as the Covid experience had begun, it was complicated! Our new landlord offered us the same 'good deal' and we refused, as we have always set up our own moving and utility plans over the years and moves before. Having spoken to a local Councillor I have known for years, I can confirm that the landlord, or in this case the Agent, does receive a payment from each of the services that prospective tenants use. In our case, we were with one of the 'big 6' energy suppliers and I informed them well in advance. We had gas and electricity and had to initially take the service offered by Shell Energy, that was in place for the sitting tenant. Our pleasant surprise was to find their tariff to be £33/month less than we had been paying. Not recommending Shell: just describing our own case. I would have liked a Smart Meter, but until the situation calms down, they will not do that.
What I have done at every move, is to list all suppliers of every service at both addresses, with their registered addresses and/or emails. Then I prepare a form letter and use it to contact each supplier, to let them know I am leaving this address on that date and moving to the new one. The one organisation I had a problem with, was the Council and Council Tax. It took two months to make them understand what happened and receive a refund of our overpayment.
Good luck with your move, make sure you inform all parties. The one I forgot was the TV license, which I actually sorted this morning. Now I am trying to make them understand that I was 75 early this year and should receive a free license until August 1st.

I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

What everyone else has said:  Take control or abdicate responsibility and pay for it for the next ever (sorry, too much Buffy bingeing)

Learning to read meters and working out what your energy costs were for the last month is not difficult at all and there is plenty of help right here, whenever you need it, OP.  Would you allow someone else to decide how much you were prepared to pay for a car, a house, a can of baked beans?  So why let them dictate how much you pay for gas and electricity?

I echo the sentiment wishing you good luck with your move and would appreciate an update when you have kicked these jokers right into touch.

Look After My Bills say they were on Dragons Den - I've never watched the show, so don't know.
Just because someone was on Dragons Den doesn't mean their company/business model is good/sustainable/value for money for the end customer.
