Nationwide travel insurance question

Hi there, quick question regarding travel insurance cover.

I booked a hotel abroad but was unable to go due to FCO advice.

I booked the hotel and paid for it myself but for 1 adult 1 child.

I'm the policy holder with nationwide, the child is not covered.

Nationwide will only refund me half the cost of hotel as the child is not insured on the policy even though I was the one that paid for the hotel.

Are they correct in doing this?

    What policy have you got?
FlexAccount Travel insurance - family cover is an optional extension.
Family – extend cover to the account holders’ partner and dependent children to travel together or independently of each other.

FlexPlus Travel Insurance - includes family cover
    Worldwide cover for your family

  • FlexPlus travel insurance.
The child I'm travelling with is my brother and it doesn't look like he's covered based on the website definition of family:

"The insurance covers all Nationwide FlexPlus current account holders, their partners and dependent children".

Agh well maybe I was being stupid thinking because I booked the hotel and paid for it I should be entitled to claim it all back. Didn't realise this policy/travel insurance works like this.

    Cheers

Travel insurance only covers those listed on the policy. Each person has to claim their share of the cost from their own insurance, regardless of who paid for it. Several people have been caught out by that.
