SEISS and new job

Hello all,
I am a self employed personal trainer. I am employed for  only 12 hours a week by my gym to do group classes etc (furloughed for that) the salary for this is usually (pre lockdown) paid back as rent to the gym. Obviously due to covid I’ve gone from doing approximately 15-20 hours of PT a week to 2 hours a week outside. I am grateful for the first SEISS grant and I do need the second grant as well as I did not consider a mortgage break or buisness loan a viable option.

The gym will open on 25th July and it will take a while to rebuild my business, particularly as there will be restrictions on member/client entry etc. I also owe loads of sessions to clients when the gym opens so initially I have very low earning potential.I am confident I qualify for the second grant as things are.

However I have been put forward for a part time assistant managers position at a different site (same company) which I would do alongside my current 12 hours on shift and my PT.  My concern is that this may mean that employed income becomes more than 50% of my total income. I would likely start the new role at the end of July/start of Aug. Does anyone have any idea if this would affect my eligibility for the second SEISS grant?

Sorry if this is long winded, any help would be greatly appreciated as the insurance of the second grant is a deal breaker for whether I even go for this job.

Cheers

The 50% income test for income is only relevant for the years 2016/17 to 2018/19, so that is not a concern. As the gym won't open until after 13 July you should have no trouble claiming that your business been adversely affected by coronavirus for the second grant.
  • Ok thanks very much Jeremy.
