Flight cancelled

Hi, I have booked a Return flight From the UK to Turkey through a 3rd party called Mytrips . I booked and paid on Monday then on the Tuesday I got a text telling me my return flight had been cancelled, I contacted Mytrips to find out what my options are as I am booked in for weight loss surgery in Turkey so need to still go. I was told that I could rebook a flight that was going the day after but I would be charged a £30 handling fee! After checking the Facebook page of the Airline I am traveling With Which is Turkish Airlines, it seems them cancelling flights is a common occurrence with them at the minute but you can change flight days and times with them for free. I asked Mytrips what happens if my flight was cancelled again? which they replied I would have to pay the £30 handling charge again and every time It had to be changed. I was told that I could get a refund but again the £30 handling fee would be taken from it and the refund can take up to 16 weeks. Could you please tell me if this is right? I have not cancelled my flight but yet I’m being penalised for it. My brother and sister in law are in the same predicament with a different 3rd party called emailflights.com but their handling charge has gone up from £30pp yesterday to £45app today and £75pp will be deducted from their refund if that is what they decided to do. We can’t afford to wait that long for a refund and pay out for the flights again but we have already paid for our surgery so need to go whatever. Please could you advise me is we are being scammed as we don’t know what to do.
Kind regards
Leanne Hall

The good news is that EU regulations mandate that flight cancellation by the airline means that you're entitled to a full refund of the ticket, with no deductions permitted.
The bad news is that this should be paid within 7 days but no travel companies are adhering to this, so you will end up waiting for your refund, especially if booked through agents, even though you theoretically shouldn't have to....0 -
You've used third-party agents and they are entitled to charge admin fees to process things like booking changes (it does take their time so incur a cost). It will be in the conditions you agreed to when booking. The law says their charges should be reasonable - whether £30 is reasonable or not I don't know.
Next time book direct rather than via shady third party agents.1
