Legal position on giving Virgin notice via a letter

I called Virgin to cancel my Sky Sports when the lockdown started. Somehow - and I kick myself for this - I got talked into agreeing another bundle contract which was disadvantageous to me.
I tried calling to try to cancel this but I was on hold constantly and couldn't get through. With no email address or other way I could find of contacting them I wrote an old fashioned letter.
I sent this before the 14 day cooling off period expired, but due to the CV-19 postal delays they didn't receive it until afterwards and won't take any action.
I made a reasonable effort to cancel the contract but they didn't provide me with the facility to do so. What's the legal position here?

Snail mail but they did acknowledge they received the letter.
