Moorcroft debt recovery not stating debt has been paid?!

Hi guys and girls, need your help please!

My girlfriend got left in debt by an ex boyfriend for a car and defaulted so debt was passed onto moorcroft debt recovery, she has been paying this now for 2 years solid and checked her credit report and it has stated a default every month!!?? Debt was with Halifax originally, she has spoken to Halifax who are as much use as a fart in a  spacesuit.

Surely once the debt was sold to moorcroft it should be marked as settled or satisfied? She has proof of payments to moorcroft and yet they are putting a default every month?? Is this a case of chatting with moorcroft so they can correct her credit report or onto the financial obmunsman?

Surely this is illegal to be doing? As I said she has all proof? I take it they will correct it to have a default up to her first payment to these sods? Any advice from anyone?

Thankyou!

No.  It's correct that it should show as a default each month, as it's a status update.  Once she defaulted, she can't undefault.

She can chat to anyone she wants, but it won't be settled or satisfied until she's settled the debt.

Moorcroft will be collecting the debt, rather than having bought it. from what you say.   As above, they're correct with the default reporting.

I doubt there's any !!!! to be smelt.  If your girlfriend says she's been paying each month, I'm sure she has. You could ask her for evidence, but that wouldn't show much trust.

As above, Moorcroft will only acting on behalf of their client as collector, her debt still remains with the original creditor.
The debt will have defaulted through non payment, the default remains on file for 6 years, after which it will vanish.
What you see every month is the status of the account updating, its still the same default.

Once defaulted payment history is no longer recorded for that account, on your credit file.
The default cannot be removed as it is a factual record of events.

  • I wouldn't ask her to do that tbh she has been straight from day dot its no biggie and i trust her entirely! She is a good one and just fell unlucky getting involved financially with her ex who proceeded to disappear and left her with the car, debt you name it but she has been fantastic nd tried to keep up payments on her own but it got a biy much so it started with a few missed payments and went om from there! But has bee  paying moorcroft last 3 years and will untill debt it cleared! I trust her massively would never ask for proof as its not my business but looking further into it there is 3 years left until it's removed from her file so 36 months or so it's no biggie at all, was wondering how it's still marked as a default if she has been making payments as I thought a default meant "not" payed.  understand a bit more now thanks guys, it's a weird one as she has been on the phone today to Halifax and Halifax say moorcroft own it and moorcroft are saying Halifax own it but still taking payments? Does one person own the debt legally or can two people? It's very confusing!  she is on the phone tomorrow to Halifax debt recovery as there is also some other things that seem a bit weird as we'll try and get it sorted!

Understand a bit as it is marked as a default first but continues to be marked as a default until debt is settled or satisfied and clears after 6 years regardless, tbh it's a shame moorcroft never offered a reduced settlement offer.
I was under the impression once moorcroft took it on the debt it would be marked as settled or satisfied with the details on the report and into closed accounts and defaulted up to moorcroft taking it on, and then primarily becoming moorcroft responsibility for obtaining payments.

Thanks for the reply it's clearing some things up for us!! 🤘🤘🤙🤙

It’s only settled, or partially settled, when you pay it off, not before.
You mis-understand  the system somewhat, debt camel can answer most questions regarding credit files.
