Are Scottish Power The most Incompetent Company Ever?.

Most of the Utility Cos. have a Bereavement team. I certainly dealt with SSE via such a team when my mother died and they were excellent . Don't SP have such a team ?
As to competence ? I fear that SP are far from the worst of a very bad bunch -try dealing with Together Energy !!!1 -

Would love to do that. However, early April was hit with this Covid virus and only now really recovering from it. And on top of that my employer decided to call it a day regarding his business, so out of work as well.
I have NHS and Military pension to live on but after bills I am left with £35 each month in my pocket. So not much to play with regarding paying more on top. It’s a few years since I was in a similar situation to yourself when my mother died; however, my Solicitor, who handled my mother’s estate/probate/house-sale, took care of all the communication with gas/leccy/water/council/bank etc;...all I had to do initially was inform the relevant companies/bereavement-departments that the house was now empty and would be sold as soon as the legal-stuff/probate etc had been finalized.
I provided final gas/leccy/water meter readings when the house was finally sold. My Solicitor paid the utility companies anything they were owed and then deducted all such payments from my mother’s estate before it was disseminated.
I’ve no idea what your legal position is and I personally have no legal expertise whatsoever, but my Solicitor handled my mother’s estate AND the house sale,...it made things so much simpler.
I had no hassle whatsoever from any of the utility companies. Once they have a ‘Solicitor’ associated with the account they are apparently happy to let things take their course.
Not sure if anything above is relevant to your particular circumstance but I hope everything goes well in the future for you,...good luck.
