Just thought you'd like to know. Again thanks for the advice everyone.Having re-read your opening post I can understand the confusion. When you have stated 'SP', posters have assumed that you are referring to Scottish Power the distribution company that sell gas and electricity to the whole of UK - even us sassanacs; and presumably you are a SP customer. The firm responsible for the repair are Scottish Power Energy Networks who own and operate the electricity transmission and distribution network in Central & Southern Scotland. They are the DNO(Distribution Network Operator) Had you been, say, with British Gas they(BG) would not have accepted responsibility.Anyway a good result and a PCB replacement on a combi shouldn't cost anything like £500 - even for a genuine manufacturers part; and most plumbers will use a generic replacement.

It is quite common for boiler PCBs to fail from the power simply being turned off for a while, ours did last winter, so quite a surprise for SP to accept liability. However considering that a boiler PCB would cost around £150-200 to buy, and the labour to fit it would be perhaps £100, then SP's offer to pay anything over £500 is perhaps not as generous as it might seem!Moonheid said:SP have agreed to pay for the repairs to the boiler over my £500 home emergency cover limit.

Indeed, you can buy an entire boiler for not much more than £500!nick74 said:
