There are not many council or social houses and those are given to those most in need.   You need to look at houses you can afford, maybe it means moving outwith your area or for children to share rooms.
  • I can remember a time in the 60's 70's when 2 families shared one house due to being unable to afford a  property each. We seem to have come full circle. I really don't know how people cope with the expensive rents now.

Generally you earn more money by working harder. Perhaps that's where your philosophy falls down?

LA's and  HA's have built around 26.5K new houses per year since 2010. That doesn't come near to supplying the existing demand and future growth needed with population growth. In England, there are 1.15m households on the waiting lists now. Do the maths, and you'll see that it's going to take 43 years to house all those people, assuming no more join the list. And assuming that the existing stock does not diminish with age and right-to-buy.

In theory that number may diminish as some applicants may die before they reach the top of the list
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I know a family, from the grandparents there are 6 children, 19 grandchildren and at last count 33 great grandchildren, I believe there are two more on the way as well as one great great grandchild.
Of the adults in the family, I'd say at least 95% of these are in LA or council housing. I've no idea what their secret is but something seems to work for them.
    Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

My Mum used to be a health visitor in the 80s and 90s.  She would sometimes complain about the people that would admit they only had kids just to get housed or benefits paid, and then not take care of the kids and all the money went on cigs or alchohol.
