Hotels.com refund

I paid a non-refundable deposit to Hotels.com for a group of friends (nine rooms) at an hotel in Normandy for the first week in June. Obviously, because of the pandemic, it had to be cancelled. Hotels.com offered me a voucher with the condition that it could only be used against one room. I went on their website to re-book for the first week in October, the next time we could all go. The hotel in question did not even appear on their website but it  was there on Bookings.com so I booked it with them.
I contacted Hotels.com, eventually by phone and after speaking to a number of people there (none of whom, from their accents seemed to be in the UK) I was told I would have a refund within 14 days. Three weeks later, no refund has been received and Hotels.com seem to have removed their telephone numbers from their site, except one which has a recorded message saying it cannot accept calls at the moment.
Any suggestions? It's a lot of money.

sound very similar to my story !!!
  • The parent company of Hotels.com is Expedia. They also seem to have removed all their contact numbers
  • Just re-checked my account with Hotels.com and they appeared to have removed the booking altogether. Fortunately, I kept a screenshot

I would be tempted to try a chargeback on your credit card... as you haven't been provided with what you were offered.  It may prompt them into doing something.  If it was Hotels.com that cancelled the booking you should have had a full refund.  If you cancelled it may be harder you to argue that you are due a refund.
