This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.

Good morning folks.Whilst I anticipate a quiet day I know that things change quickly! This morning the cleaner is coming, there's not much for her to do but I want to keep a routine going. The delivery yesterday came really late. A text message from DHL gave me a timed delivery of between 3pm and 4pm, it arrived after 7pm! 🤣I'm contemplating another trip home but it's all dependent on how DM is. Her temperature is still spiking and medics are struggling to find out why. That, and her high heart rate are causing some worry. I'll phone the ward later on for an update.I hope that everyone is doing OK. Happy Thursday to all.14

Thanks gers for starting us off. We miss nmlc and her 6am openers.
Yesterday I spent reorganizing my study (posh name for the tiny third bedroom) and today I will be clearing up the fall out ready for the curtain fitters tomorrow.
All this unaccustomed housewifery makes me nervous. Am I turning into a Flylady?
Looks a bit dismal outside at the moment. Yesterday cleared up eventually and was quite bright and warm after a gloomy start. Perhaps today will be the same. No matter, I won't be going out anyway.
Absolutely nothing else happening here. I will be ringing Gangsta Granny next door in a minute, (91 and tough as old boots) to make sure she made it through the night. She likes to know that if she doesn't answer I will be sounding the alarm. It is her horror that she will be found dead in her bed by the emergency services. Hardly likely to happen as she has a very lovely daughter living not far away, but at least I can make sure we start the day with a good laugh.
Hope that you all made it through the night and got some sleep, even if it wasn't as much as you'd have liked.
Enjoy your day as much as possible.

Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers.I'm sorrry to hear that your Mum is not doing so well, thinking of you both. It's grey and damp here, hope it brightens up a bit.In under a week I've had my eyes tested, a dental appointment and a hairdo whoo hoo! Mind, the eye test should have been in April and was cancelled of course, the dental appt had been made in January when I was last there, and the hairdresser texted me with an appointment. My teeth are ok, no problems there, but I need new lenses for my glasses. I was pleased to be told that they can be put in my existing frames, which were expensive, so I'm wearing my old pair,. It's not too bad, I can manage for the 10 days I was told it would take.I was delighted to be able to get my hair done, I'd felt such a mess. DH is now complaining that his head's cold though. There's not a lot happening here, I felt a bit glum yesterday, but things are no worse for me than they are for anyone else. We wemt out for a walk, which always picks me up a bit.Going to tidy the freezer today, how does it get in such a mess - it must be my fault, I'm ussually the only one that opens it.Redruby, your DD seems to have been through the mill with her horrible ex, hope things get sorted out for her.Hope everyone has a good Thursday anyway, take care folks14

Morning all dolly has been walked and fed and i am just enjoying a cuppa with the accompanying sounds of next doors skip being filled very grey again today and has been raining heavily overnight . Mums freezer arrived and i have put it in place so her cleaner will wipe it out for her today and switch it on so by next week we should have her fully stocked .
Today i am off to have my hair done i have extensions so i can't just pop to any hairdresser as a lot won't touch them so i have had to wait my maintenance appointment is long overdue so they have to take them out and reattach which can be painful at the best of times so i always take some pain killers before i go so i am sure it will be torture today still the things we do for vanity i have very thin hair so i just have them for volume rather than length right i am off to the freezer to find something for dinner and i have a tesco delivery of tins and a few other bits later .
Gers I hope they get to the root of your mums problems soon
Ruby I hope you are still sleeping
Hugs to all who need them have a great day xx

Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off, thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying first cuppa and a breakfast bar whilst on here, DS1 gone to work and DS2 settled and happy.
Grey and raining steadily - wet underfoot as it's been raining since some time during the night, cool too.
Dinner last night was hot quiche, boiled egg, smoked salmon, salmon, sausages, hot new potatoes, side salad and coleslaw - several of these items were needing to be used up. I remembered to get some chicken out to defrost for tonight's dinner - not sure what I will do with it possibly a sauce and veg.
Yesterday was a long awaited hairdresser appointment - DH a haircut, me a cut and colour - hairdresser couldn't believe just how much my hair had grown - she had to give it a bit of a cut before she started - but feels so much better now.
Today is going to be a chill day - although I do need more milk, some salad etc I also need to visit town.
Keep safe and well x

A bit grey out this morning but I've noticed that one of my poppies has flowered which has cheered me up, I've been watching them for what seems like months!
Sorry your DM still isn't well Gers, hope the medics can find the right solution.
Sounds like an MOT day Scarlett, you must be so pleased to have your hair cut, I have to wait until the 18th and it can't come quick enough.
monna - you've just reminded me I need to contact the 'blind' man.
I had a lovely day yesterday, DD came with Sophie, we had lunch and then a long walk. Stopped for a cold drink and walked back along the river. Once they had gone I cut the grass, it rained as I finished so just in time.
Nothing organised for today, need to contact some friends for a meet up now we can. Enjoy your day, take care. XX12 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start GERS. I hope today brings better news on your DM. It's such a worry whilst they are trying to get her stabilised. I actually had a better night last night but I know full well I will pay for it with a sleepless one tonight.
Well once again a night of rain which is due to linger on and off all day. This is getting boring. Who is hogging the sun? I am pondering on whether to do the Friday Tidy today as workmen and deliveries are due tomorrow. And talking of workmen, the plumber didn't get back yesterday so still a non-flushing loo. He texted with profuse apologies saying he was bogged down all day with ongoing jobs and emergency ones, so he is now, hopefully, coming today! No worries, I am getting quite adept at flushing it with a bucket of water!
DD called yesterday with a bargain blouse for me. She had been back to Boundary Mills to return some of the 50% off M & S items she got last week and spotted a Per Una blouse at a clearance price of £7 with a further 50% off. A Per Una blouse just my size for £3.50 what's not to like! The dress I got there last week is far too long for a short ar*e like me and that's still awaiting shortening when I cba dragging out the machine.
Have a good folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need, especially GERS and REDRUBY and her DD. Take care one and all and stay safe x.

Gers, sending my best wishes for you and your mum.
I too have a long awaited hair appointment today. I was lucky in that my last appointment was just before lockdown so I'm not too bad but it takes longer to blow dry in the morning so I'll be glad of a tidy.
I am itching like mad on my forearms and hands and have red weals on them. I cut back a wallflower in the garden, thinking nothing of it, research has now shown that one of its common names contains the word blister. It's been two days now and I'm still itching like mad, no anti-histamines in the house and I don't want to visit the chemist so I am scratching as if I have fleas!
Chris heard yesterday that he does have Covid antibodies but not enough for him to continue giving plasma. At least we know that he and Crystal (she had the symptoms before him) have had it and hopefully will not get it again.

Morning all
I slept the whole night !!! woohoo I cant tell you the relief it is to not wake tired !! it was drug induced but at this moment I dont care at all !!!! I phoned the Dr's yesterday and got the snotty receptionist who informed me that the Dr could not speak to be till Friday at the earliest, I am not ashamed to say I pulled out the cancer card and I even started to cry as I was soooo tired, the Dr phoned me back within an hour and told me he would leave a script out for me
there are not many advantages to this horrid disease but it does help at times !!
Not sure about dinner tonight but I am going shopping in a while so will do a list, I quite fancy tacos or similar for a change, will see what they have. Need to empty the dw this morning and have a sweep round the rest can wait till tomorrow.
Gers I hope your mum makes an improvement and that you will be able to get to your home again xx
Have good days all xx12 -
Morning all, thank you for starting today's thread Gers. I am sending good wishes for your DM, and hoping that she picks up very soon.
After a full day of rain here, the clouds decided to unleash yet more rain overnight. It has stopped in the last hour but it is very gloomy and I think there is more rain on the way. I really need to cut the grass but that will have to wait.
We had a food delivery from Morries last night, unpacked by him indoors so not sure about substitutions but I don't see a washing up brush, which I did want, my current one is all giblongey. Today we have DS's organic meat arriving and a delivery from hamazoon. Which is a very exciting one, a USB cable for OH's laptop. That was meant to come with my birdseed but didn't.
Other than that, not much happening. I did one online training thing yesterday, PREVENT training, those of us who work in s hols will have done it but it really was not exactly targeted at what I do. Now I have to undertake 3 more bits if learning that I have done in the past but one of the agencies I work for requires them to be updated. I am a bit miffed as I have to pay for some of them and right now I'm not earning. I'm a bit unsure how much longer I want to work but don't want to shoot myself in the foot by refusing to engage with training. And of course there is always something new to learn. Yesterday the training was free AND I got a susstifficat.
I need to get dressed in case anything gets delivered while OH is out for his walk/newspaper buying, I really don't want to traumatise a delivery driver with my very old and ragged pjs. It is so tempting to just sit here and watch the birds, so far today I've counted magpies, pigeons, a blackbird, a thrush, one sparrow, robins and a bluetit, nothing rare but I do so love to see them. Also a squirrel digging up my grass.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12
