Mexico Opodo

Hi all. My wife and I have two flights booked through Opodo (via Virgin Atlantic) to Mexico City for the end of August to attend my son’s wedding celebrations. The wedding has been cancelled due to covid restrictions and we are trying to reschedule the flight to March 2021. My concern is that there is no possibility of actually speaking to a human being about this and we have to content ourselves that we have filled in the necessary online transfer request with Opodo and now we can do nothing but wait until they get around to looking at it. But what if they don’t? What if we slip between the cracks or they simply don’t have the staff or inclination to do anything about it? Do we then simply become a ‘no show’ at the airport and our £1300 has gone up in jet fuel smoke? Any advice or similar stories appreciated.

    That is nearly 7 weeks ahead-a long time in COVID-world. All agents are stacked out at present and prioritising earlier departures, they will no doubt get to yours much nearer the time: I'd say chase 2-3 weeks before the original departure date
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I have now been told that the final leg of our original flights (from PDG to Newcastle) has been cancelled and replaced with a flight some 10 hours later. Does this give me some leverage to say I want my money back for the whole package? Vain hope!!

    Airlines have different policies about when a schedule change enables a cancellation.

    But 10 hours is quite significant so it's worth trying to see if you are entitled to a refund by saying the replacement flights are unacceptable.  That should mean a cancellation of all flights on the same booking. 

    There's EU261 that gives you the right to a cancellation anyway in the event of a cancelled flight. It does depend if you're on an EU airline or not though when travelling from a non-EU destination. 

    You would need to do this through Opodo as your agent. I guess your first problem might be getting in touch with them!
  • Force Majeure Travel insurance

    Hi can anybody please advise, we have booked flights to Barcelona to catch a cruise ( which we couldn’t wait for our first cruise!) However the cruise has been cancelled thankfully only 25pound deposit has been lost, however our flights have been booked separately we paid premium figures nearly 700 pound due to cruise times, with this in mind we also added ‘cancel for any reason insurance’ so of course when it all happened we thought at least our money will be returned, however when we asked for a refund on our flights, Opodo who we booked the insurance said sorry it’s in your t&c Force Majore you can’t have your money back...So whats the point of insurance.😭...Do we have a case for our money back? O and they sent our details to the incorrect email twice that we kept trying to change with them..GDPR?. 🤔
