Villa booked in florida

hi, just wanted to ask, we booked a villa in Florida to travel in April 2020, obviously due to pandemic had to cancel, had no joy getting money back from villa owner, They only said they were happy to move dates, to be take by the end of this year. so went via insurance company who have now said “they are unable to cover claim as villa owner offered us chance to re book”.We paid via bank transfer as we had booked with them before and have paid in full, Any help would be appreciated regarding legalities of them keeping our money as no holiday had been taken, thanks in advance 😁

I can't see that the villa owner would have had any obligation to offer anything at all if the property was available for occupancy at the time - any issue you'd have had travelling there isn't their responsibility.  Regarding legalities, which jurisdiction was the rental contract operating under and were there any cancellation provisions that may have helped you?

No harm in arguing the toss with the insurance company if the rebook option is unlikely to be usable by year end due to ongoing travel restrictions, as this would prevent you from mitigating your losses and therefore it would be reasonable to expect them to cover that.
