Employers in the UK will not be able to lay off furloughed staff using the financial pressures of the pandemic as an excuse. If they do so, they will have to pay back the money they have received from the Government as furlough support.Extract from the article. Publisher based in India and advising on UK law

Clickbait- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's and their rules apply.

Thanks so much for your input. It's just I am a representative for a number of people regarding furlough > redundancy and we have the final meeting tomorrow. One of the team just sent me that and wanted me to ask about it in the meeting. It didn't seem right so I just wanted to check with the excellent people on this website. Thanks, very much appreciated.0 -
"Lay-off" is a specific term in UK employment law
"Furlough" is a specific term in UK employment law. In UK law it is different to a lay-off (because you are still getting paid), in a lot of other countries they are synonyms.
You cannot be "laid-off" in the UK unless your contract specifically allows for it

The same story was in the Telegraph the other day, so there may be some element of truth in it.
By that, I mean more than at first glance from the OP's link of what looks like a click bait site.

Sounds about as accurate as some of the rubbish printed on MPs expenses.jimkelly said:The same story was in the Telegraph the other day, so there may be some element of truth in it.
