Stamp Duty Changes

I think we should look into the fact that having just moved home 2 weeks ago, to now have announced I could have saved £9000 in stamp duty is incredulous. We pushed ahead throughout the terrible current situation, and now feel let down that we could have saved so much money. Lets start a campaign for at least a partial rebate for those that did struggle ahead and move since the ability to move was released a few weeks ago. I feel as a taxpayer, and someone that has worked hard for many years that I have been penalised for having to move just a few days before this announcement!

I bought my house late 2007 before the crash and not recovered til this day, it happens, move on.2

You have not been penalised you were simply unlucky with the timing.
Unless you are paid £32k+ your entire life excluding until 18 you are a net taker from the system. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
Same here. It feels very unfair...but life is usually unfair anyway.0

The stamp duty changes are to encourage people to buy. You didn't need encouraging, so it was never designed for people like you.5

I bought a property 6 years ago....oh wait, totally irrelevant now.1

This is a really tough one, I too bought a house during lock down and it feels a little frustrating that the stamp duty has now been revoked as it feels like I'm being penalised from a cash perspective. I must say though; it was my choice (and i guess also my luxury) to progress during lock down, so while its frustrating i guess its a 'just accept it and move on' type scenario... i can't change it now, so there's no point me welling on it.3

Could be worse, there could be jubilation that stamp duty is cut and it all over the news.
But... If you live in Scotland or Wales then just turn a blind eye0 -
You didn't 'have to move'. You chose to move.
How far would you like the backdate to run I wonder? To your completion date? The start of lockdown? The day we left the EU?
There has to be a line drawn somewhere, and you've just been unfortunate.
No free lunch, and no free laptop2 -
Agree with the comments, must be frustrating for those who completed recently but this government policy simply wasn't designed for you as you were happy/able to purchase with the existing stamp duty rates. This is to encourage people who may have moved during the next 9 months had it not been for Corona and the prospect of losing job, waiting on falling prices etc etc who now wouldn't have without this incentive.0
