This is a discussion forum, not a means of contacting the editors of the website. But the website is owned by Moneysupermarket, so I'm not sure why you'd expect a separate comparison service here.
  • as i am contacting the first time, i didn't know we can't discuss my question, so hoped someone may assist, second, i am not aware that MSE is owned by Moneysupermarket. Your response is rather sarcy ad unappreciated, but thank you for the heads up

Whilst MoneySupermarket may not have done a motorbike offering certainly other comparisons sites have - confused.com for example does. Don't know if its true comparison or just a broker exposing their full panel but either way its another option to check
  • Yes i agree. I read in Which? magazine that price comparison sites are not always the cheapest etc. as they get 'paid' for the listing, so we still should look around. What I do is to use price comparison then go to direct websites for about 3 and get a discussion to get the cheapest/price match for the one i prefer.
    Thank you for your reply.

It is more complex than that really because almost every sales channel has a cost associated to it and as well as direct marketing (ie something that says "buy this product now") you also have brand advertising (eg Direct Line sponsoring home improvement programmes on Channel 4) which aren't a direct push to buy but a improve your awareness of the brand so when you think of insurance you think of their brand. All of this needs to be paid for from premiums plus the advertising where someone clicks on a link but doesn't buy etc.

The other complexity is that those who go on to comparison sites may be considered to have different priorities to the people who pick up the yellow pages to find a telephone number.  Some insurers will sell a lower grade product on comparison sites so it can be priced cheaper and a better quality product on the phone as people typically are less price sensitive via that channel.
