Hi all I'm painting my doors and banister with gloss but can I use silk emulsion as an undercoat without any problems? I've used matt paint on most but have run out and only have silk now but the gloss is one coat. Please help as my budget is minus zero.

What's on them at the moment ? If they're bare wood then you really should use the correct primer/undercoat first. If they're already painted then just give them a light sanding to get a reasonable surface and provide a key, wash them down to get rid of any dust, then just paint the gloss straight on top.

Not sure you're going round painting an undercoat in matt emulsion in the first place. What finish was on them in the first place?dobbie12 said:Hi all I'm painting my doors and banister with gloss but can I use silk emulsion as an undercoat without any problems?
