Risk of booking holiday next year

The grief I had getting money back from travel companies, I'm now very wary of spending money with some of them ever again. A friend asked if I am up for annual ski trip next year. I'm not so sure. I'm trying to work out what cover I have going forward. I'm insured with nationwide flexplus annual policy, which has always been very good.
Should I assume that covid is no longer covered, and any holiday cancellation (another lockdown) would be covered by travel firm (and section75), but any coronavirus related illness either before or during wouldn't be covered by either travel insurance or anything else?

No-one can really tell. More money has been thrown at researching this disease than anything else, ever. We're learning all the time, but it has been extremely successful.
I usually holiday in France/ Spain and travel by ferry. I generally book at Christmas for the following August / September. I'm not doing that this year. If I go next year it will be at short notice to reduce the risk of being changed / cancelled when the time comes.
Insurance is also changing. It's a big market with a lot of competition. It too locked down with tighter conditions and some companies withdrawing completely. Now we're seeing companies add back in Coronavirus cover. So read the policy carefully, and pick one which suits you if you do go.0 -
Yep, interesting. Nationwide have updated their polices, I am now covered if I catch COVID before I travel, or whilst away, and also covered as long as the UK government state it's safe to travel at time of booking.
It feels like the insurance industry has been pushed to do to keep the travel businesses afloat. It does that, it give me confidence to book a holiday for early next year, and the risk is being taken by the insurance company (after all, that is what insurance is)0
