Lose No Claim Discount after switching car insurance during lockdown

Hi, I am on second year NCD by this August. In June, after reading MSE post there will be no cancelation fee, I switched to another provider to save money (reduce mileage as working from home). Unfortunately the provider produced 1 Year NCD proof as I did not complete the full year with them on second year. I did not aware I will lose out on NCD after cancelation obviously I am a newbie.  Would MSE bring this up with car insurance provider please?

  • If you didn't complete the year of insurance you are not eligible for the full years NCB

Why would the insurance company give you the second year's NCB when you did not complete the full year?
You have ended up with one year, when instead of waiting a few months to cancel you could have had two. Totally your fault and and you have learned a lesson, things aren't given away free.

This is absolutely standard and any other car insurer would have soon the same. NCD is a form of loyalty bonus which insurers award for completing a full year with them - you didn't complete a full year so no more NCD.

If you have a complaint it's with MSE, who could probably have made clearer in their article that while there may be no fee for cancelling, there might still be other disadvantages to switching mid term, such as not accruing any NCD for a partial years policy.
