Can anyone offer advice please. My daughters passport expired and due to covid we were unable to apply for a new one. 3 weeks ago I applied online for her renewal passport and sent the old one back. A week later my sister applied for a renewal passport for my nephew. We both received a text saying our passports had been received. She later received another text saying her passport is on its way. Mines still saying application in progress. I've phoned twice and put 2 complaints through. My argument is that how can someone who applied after me get their passport before me. I was told it was shear luck and someone could apply next week for a new passport and receive it before myself. How is this fair. They won't tell me who my case handler is or chase the application. I appreciate the situation with Covid but surely you should sort out passports on a date of receipt order. It's just so unfair. My concern is that if something is wrong with my application then they liklihood is that we can't go on holiday. Any advice?? Thanks

They do have less staff. I recently got mine and it took 4 weeks from them receiving my old passport to them dispatching mine. There may have been an issue or needing to clarify something before they submitted it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If there was more info needed from you they most likely would have contacted you by now. Sometimes it's just luck in to how passports are issued.
When is your holiday? Have you checked the covid 19 entry requirements for the country you're visiting? Not every country allows you to skip a quarantine period.1 -
It is sheer luck. Staff members are probably given a batch of passports to work through. The person handling your sister's request has simply got there faster than the one handling yours.

Having read Martins column a couple of weeks ago and it stating renewals were taking over 2 months I thought it best apply.
To my amazement I received it 5 working days after they received my old passport.

There are several passport offices and your and your sister's applications possibly went to different ones so were dealt with at different times.
