Best way to contact British Airways for a refund?

My flights to and from Canada have been cancelled by BA and I want to get a refund so I can book with KLM, who do have suitable flights.
However, unless you are willing to apply for a voucher, BA direct you to a phone number if you want to get a refund.
I have tried this number over and over again, and they don't even put you in a queue, they just say that they are "unable to take your call" and cut you off! Grrrr!
Can anybody suggest an alternative route or strategy to get a refund from BA for a cancelled flight, that they know has worked for them or anybody else?
Thanks!

You can't get through, period. It's deliberate policy if you want a refund. Been that way for months.
    Just do a chargeback.

No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Do you know if people have been successful with chargebacks?

Do you have any BA status ie gold, silver? They have dedicated phone numbers, I recently phoned and got through in less than 5 minutes with silver membership.

Yes. I did one myself. It took about 3 weeks. Since the flight was cancelled, BA  have no defence and not likely to contest it.

After dialling the BA phone number do not press any buttons. You will eventually be put in a queue and will get to speak to someone. When I did it two weeks ago I waited 15 minutes in the queue. I got my flights refunded and the money was in my bank quite quickly.

Thanks - I'll give it a try before taking the chargeback route

Which number did you call? I tried calling the 'refund line', didn't press any option buttons, but still got cut off :-(

I called 0800 727 800, didn't choose any option and was connected to live person almost straight away, without any waiting. It was today, around 11.00am. Don't choose refund option, it will simply disconnect you.

Wow! Just tried at 1319, didn't press any keys for any options, and was connected to a very helpful human in about 5 minutes - full refund made without any queries, so all I have to do now is to wait for it to appear in my credit card account.
Thanks to all for your advice!
