Hello.
Ok, we made a boo boo, but kind of felt we had no choice.
We had a package holiday booked with On The Beach for 20th July to Tenerife. We had the final balance to pay at the weekend but due to the Covid situation we decided that we weren’t prepared to travel.

We had a package holiday booked with On The Beach for 20th July to Tenerife. We had the final balance to pay at the weekend but due to the Covid situation we decided that we weren’t prepared to travel.
We had an email from the agent on Friday saying ‘great news, travel restrictions are lift’ type thing. With the balance due we were forced to cancel as we couldn’t take the gamble of losing everything if the holiday didn’t get cancelled.
Prior to cancelling I sent a Facebook message to the hotel to see when they were opening, but just got an auto response saying thanks for the message. I’d done similar the week before and they had never followed up and answered.
Given the auto response and the fact that On The Beach have phones closed down and trying to get in touch is extremely difficult, we had to cancel. At this point we lost £1039 which includes £150 cancellation fee.
10 hours later the hotel Facebooked me back and said that they wouldn’t be open until after September. They have seiner confirmed it’s now November.
There was no option to reinstate the booking. I’ve not been able to get in touch with anyone at OTB.
I know that it was our choice to cancel, but it seems very unfair. I wonder if anyone has any advice please?
Thanx

I don’t think there’s anything can be done. Others have done this in the last few months and it has also sadly backfired.1
