Outbound and return flights cancelled to US but still have an internal flight booked

Hi
Both our outbound and return flights to the US with BA have been cancelled and we received our refund to a credit card within a week. We do have an internal one way flight with Alaska Airlines still booked for August but no way of getting to the US. We asked our travel insurance company what we should do. They suggested we contacted our credit card provider and claim through them rather than the travel insurance. Do you have any advice? Are we better waiting and seeing if the flight gets cancelled?

If the flight goes ahead you will not get refunded through your credit card. The travel insurance might pay out in that instance but it seems like they are trying to pass the buck currently so I wouldn’t hold my breath with it!

Alaska was one of the first airlines to really get going again in the US but in recent weeks they have reduced flying having discovered that demand did not meet expectations. That means it is possible the flight will cancel but if it doesn't then you are not entitled to a refund or a chargeback since the flight will operate and the airline is not in breach of contract. That leaves the possibility of an insurance claim, but that is solely dependent on the terms of the policy you bought1
